The new building of the Volkstheater of the Hanseatic City of Rostock is the city entrance into the Lange Straße and a theater of short distances. The new Theaterplatz, the Theaterpassage, the Festplatz, and the Lange Straße form the public frame of the theater “without backside”. As a solitaire, the new Volkstheater is the new city symbol at the “Green Gate” and reflects the genius loci of the Hanseatic city in form and materiality. The stage tower, visible from afar, becomes another urban signet of the city. The building matches the classic façade colors of the historic city.
